Overview of the Flitch Way Action Group
Who are we?
We are a group of local people who are passionate about helping everyone have better access to the whole length of the Flitch Way.
What are we trying to achieve?
The aim of our group is to create a multi user off-road path reconnecting the Flitch Way through Dunmow to form a continuous definitive bridleway between Rayne and Bishops Stortford.
How are we going to do this?
We are working with Dunmow Town Council, Uttlesford District Council, Essex County Council, landowners and developers to secure their commitment to provide a suitable path.

Our history in more detail
Our group first came together at a meeting in the Council Chambers on 20th August 2009, hosted by Great Dunmow Town Council convened by the Chairlady of the Downs and Commons and now our President Trudi Hughes.
This meeting established the basic concepts of the project.
We came together as a group of like-minded people, during the following months we consolidated and developed into an effective working group and became known as the Flitch Way Connection Group. We converted into a formal organisation with the present constitution and title in June of last year and in early 2017 became a Registered Charity.
We have enjoyed the full support of Great Dunmow Town Council since 2010 and two town councillors are members of our committee. They provide valuable liaison with the Town Council and we also benefit greatly from their expertise.
In the past year we have welcomed three new members to our committee and a new chairman. They have brought additional areas of expertise to our organisation. We hope this process will continue, we have need for an officer with the skills to find funding for the construction work for the project.

Our group first came together at a meeting in the Council Chambers on 20th August 2009, hosted by Great Dunmow Town Council convened by the Chairlady of the Downs and Commons and now our President Trudi Hughes.
This meeting established the basic concepts of the project.
- The route of the bridleway.
- A link for cycling and walking directly into the town centre.
- Use of existing paths and tracks where possible.
- The project divided into phases for ease of feasibility and promotion.
- The new bridleway track to be constructed with a surface as good as or better than the resurfaced sections of the Flitch Way.
